files of type default in excel

Can anyone tell me how I can change the default in Excel when I am inserting
a hyperlink? I am working with a lot of documents located on our Windows
2000 Server and everytime I click on Insert then Insert Hyperlink it opens
up the hyperlink window and when I click on the "file" command to browse for
the file it always defaults to My Documents and then I have to navigate all
the way through about 5 menus to get to the folder where I want to hyperlink
too. Is there any way to change this somehow so it will automatically go
back to the folder I have been working with? Some way to customize this
hyperlink default?

Also, it defaults to "office files" in the files of type drop down and I
would love to be able to change that to default to "all files" as I am
working with .tif files. It would just be one less drop down list I have to
navigate through.

Any advice that anyone could give would be GREATLY appreciated! I am losing
a lot of time, patience and sanity!!!

Thanks again,
Heather

Dear User,

You can do this by :

This is for Powerpoint
i) Go to tools > Options > Advanced Tab
ii) Change the location of the default directory there.

This is for Excel
i) Go to Tools > Options > General
ii) Change the default location there.

Hope this will help you .

I also want to be able to change the default when I select "Insert
Slides from File" in PowerPoint to default to the File Type of "ALL
FILES" (Instead of just PowerPoint). For some reason, if you have it
set on "PowerPoint" types, it doesn't allow you to begin typing a
shortcut's name in the Filename box.

(Normally, I just manually click in the file list to find the file, or
I change the File Type to all manually, but I am trying to make it so
it defaults to File Type All because the people who run the slide show
at my church need it to be simple - meaning, they don't want to have
to click something, they just want to type in the name of the file OR
Shortcut in that "file name" box). To me, this seems to be a flaw in
PowerPoint. One should be able to enter the file name OR a shortcut
in the file name box (after all, both appear).

If you know how to change the file type to default to all -- either by
a setting, registry tweak or some sort of other method, please reply
to this post.

Suvodip Moitra's reply below is ok for setting the default LOCATION,
but it does not set the default File Type.

Thanks,
Jim.

Suvodip Moitra --

Please read what I wrote, because you obviously did not. I KNOW how
to change Location. That is NOT what I am trying to do. I want it to
default to "All File Types" - which is Not in the Advanced settings as
far as I can see. (I had already mentioned that).

If you know of a registry tweak or other helpful suggestion, please
advise.

Jim.
