files locked after search operation

We have the following setup:
Win2000 server network with Win XP workstations.

When a user performs a file search based on text in the document on a
network share, typically all excel files in that directory and
subdirectories stay locked on that users account. If someone else tries to
open the file with Excel, they will receive a message saying the file is in
use by (the last user who modified that particular spreadsheet)someone else,
not being the user who performed the search operation. Confused, I am too.

Does this sound familiar or rings a bel. Please help

Frank

If the client machines are running AV software, make sure you configure the AV on the clients such that it does not scan network
drives. It's very possible that AV on the client is keeping these files open and locking them.

Thank you,
