Got a problem that I'm not sure how to address. I have a fairly old computer
with win XP Pro on it (version 2002). Says that is has serv pack 1, but I
know that it ran and installed SP2. Starting last month, for some reason,
when I turned on the computer I would get an error on the dos screen saying
something like the Windows\system32\drivers\pci file was bad. I would
reboot, and it would load up fine. seems totally random, and I don't recall
any sort of new programs or maintanence done recently. Now, I can't find my
origininal CD (with wasn't OEM, since this computer originally had 2000 on
it), and I am running into some serious storage issues on c:, so the system
restore turned itself off some time ago. I tried to take the file from my
laptop (version 2002 home, sp2) and that seemed to work, but then it decided
that it didn't like another file. Today, I got a blue screen when it loaded,
but again on reboot it was fine. Sorry I don't have the errors; didn't think
to write them down. Anyway, I assume that I can't just swipe all the drivers
from the laptop and dump them in becuase of home vs pro. I thought that
windows put a duplicate of itself onto the computer. Can I reload that
drivers folder from that? without the original cd, do I have any other
options? I just don't like the fact that every time I hit the power button I
have to hope that it plays nice. any help appreciated. Thanks!
