Hello,

This may seem like a really dumb question, but for some random reason, today
my files in every folder are not lining up right if I move them. I will
highlight a file and try and move it in front of another file or somthing
like this and instead of moving the file over it will jsut sit in the middle
of the 2 without moving the other file to its place.... If you dont
understand me maybe you can understand what I mean when I say... I am an
orderly person when it comes to computers and I like everythign nice and neat
and in order... What do I do.... did some setting change or did I accidently
do somthing... I cant remember this ever happening on any of my other
computers nor this one in the past so PLEASE HELP!!!!

I'm guessing you have your Folder View setting to Icons. Click on Arrange
Icons, Align to Grid.

Windows Explorer shows files in whatever sequence you sort them by clicking
on the column names above the details shown (if 'View' is set to 'Details'
or 'List'.) You can sort by name, size, date created, etc.; ascending or
descending. The order in the lists HAS NO RELATION TO THE LOCATION OF THE
FILES ON THE DRIVE. The only way you can change the display order in with
'Details' or list is to click on the column headings. The folders and files
shown in Windows Explorer are a LOGICAL organization, not a physical
organization.

If you set 'View' to 'Icons' or 'Thumbnail', or 'Tile' view you can move the
display order around as you like, but as soon as you view the folder or
files with 'View' set to 'Details' or 'List' the order reverts in the other
views.

Usually the phrase 'move a file' means to copy it to a new folder or drive,
deleting it afterwards form the original location.

If I have misunderstood your question, please reply. I like the 'Details'
view. Everything in alphabetical order, or in file type order, or size
order, etc. Everything neatly lined up and easy to find.

Right click a space in the directory (i.e. a space with no file), point to
"Arrange icons by" and choose "Align to grid".

If you want everything to be neat for you, but lose the ability to have
"spaces" between your files, also tick "Auto arrange" from the same menu as
previously mentioned.

Hope this helps,

Tom C.

help from a friend when I spent about 2 hours trying to figure it out... it's
