files and transfers wizard question

Joe

Hello Everyone,

I have an old windows Millenenium (pc1), I purchased a new xp professional
(pc2) and am attempting to transfer my existing information from the pc1 to
pc2. Pc1 is FAT32 and Pc2 is NTFS. Can I use the files and transfer wizard
with a direct crossover ethernet cable connection.Considering they are
different formats, what kind of behaviour can I expect? If the transfer is
possible, what will the default file permissions be set to? Also before
attempting this,is there a way to fully backup pc1 , I do not see any backup
utility for me to use. Any imput humbly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Joe,

The crossover is fine, just direct the backup to the networked machine. To
do it, you need to run the WinXP CD in the WinME machine and use the other
functions. What you can't do is run it from within the WinXP machine across
the network and grab the settings and files from the WinME installation.
Permissions should not be a problem at this point, and running it should not
affect any of the WinME files.
