Used Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to back up a
users profile and then did a clean install. Now when I
run the transfer wizard to restore the accounts It
finishes and logs off. And nothing now accounts restored.
Anyone know why or how to open the .dat file content so I
can manual extracted the files.

You did save the file to a cd right, open file transfer, select, dont need the wizar
already have files-box,instead of the floppy put the file from cd on the desktop
use browse to locate.Make sure youve already created the account first, befor
useing file-transfer.

Naw saved it to a netword drive . just over 2 gb so I wasen't going to burn that to disk = ). I read all that I could on the web about the file and settings wizard and no luck on why it looks lke everything works but no profiles/accounts are added. So unless someone knows why the only other thing is to enter the .dat file. I nomally just manually backup the files like fav's but thought I would try the wizard.. Now I'm regretting it ...

Don´t worry Colin not all is lost, in fact you have it all. The only thing you have to do is go to the new computer (theone with the fresh windows), and run the wizzard again. You have to chose the option that says that you are in the new computer, after this you must select the option saying that you already made a backup of the files ( i think is the last one), the you have to browse to the place where you have .dat ( I think you said is in another pc). And i think thats all.

The wizard works on a per account basis. You would need to run it for each
existing account on the old system. Log onto that account, run the wizard.
Log onto another account, etc. On the new system, create an account. Log
onto it. Run the wizard again and import the corresponding file (the one
intended for that account). Repeat as necessary.

I've used the wizard a few times. When restoring I always select the wrong
thing. Can never remember if it's the folder that the settings file is in
or the actual file that is needed. If you do happen to select the wrong
item, the wizard will let you know.
