I needed to clean my Windows XP installation so I used
the Files And Settings Transfer Wizard to move my "old
settings" to a folder on my computer. Then I copied the
folder out on a CD and installed XP again from scratch
scrapping everything on my hard drive. When running
the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" and pointing to
the CD, I get the following error "The location that you
specified does not contain stored information. Please
type a valid path into the edit box". The location
contains a valid path so what's wrong, anybody? Can I
rectify the situation somehow?

You need to point specifically to the "USMT2.UNC" folder on your CD.

.

I have tried this and it makes no difference. What did
make a difference was to start "Files and Settings
Transfer Wizard" on the new clean XP installation, check
out the files created and compare with what I had on the
CD produced on the old installation. One file was
missing, "status". I just copied this file to my
USMT2.UNC directory and voila, the process started. But,
after a while the wizard said something
about "Undoing ...." and then the following error ocurred:

"An error occurred while the wizard was loading your data.
The wizard cannot create the data needed to save your
settings. Make sure you have enough disk space available.

To close this wizard, click Finish"

Any clues?

BTW, I have copied some of the files in My Documents from
antoher source. Is this a problem?
