I work with files that have no extension. XP had the option to set a default
program for any or no extension. How does one do that in Vista? So far I have
had no success and have to select the opening program every time!

When I find an Open With option on a context menu for a file I can check the
box for "Always open with this program...." in the lower left of the Open
With page. Is this what you are referring to?

I found it.

Type "default" into Start Search and hit Enter.
What you want is the second item in the page that appears.
The path is Control Panel - Programs - Default Programs.

You're replying to another question, but it relates to my own. Default
Programs does not profile the same functionality as XP's FILE TYPES tab, and
it appears that there is no analog to it in Vista.

Correct. I was replying to the OP.
