File-type association not being honored

Windows Explorer insists on opening .wav files with Winamp
rather than my audio editor, Cool Edit 2000.

I changed the default opening program, and in fact the
properties for a .wav file show:

Type of file: Winamp media file
Opens with: Cool Edit 2000

....but double-clicking on the file name still results in
Winamp opening it instead of Cool Edit. I have to
use "Open with" to get it to open properly.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

You need to export these keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExt
s\.wav
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.wav
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\audio
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wav (look up the default value - it's soundrec by default
but it sounds like your Non 2000/ME/XP compatable program is faulty and
changed it)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SoundRec (or whatever is listed above)
