What is the easiest and best way to transfer documents
and images that are approx 20MB between two PC users
across the country?
Thanks, Chip

One way that is dead easy is to use the file transfer mechansim in MSN
Messenger. (Or is it Windows Messenger??)--anyway the IM app of your
choice.

Bear in mind that the speed will be constrained by the slowest link
involved. This will usually be the uplink speed of the site from which the
data is coming.

How about YouSendIt... It is advertised to handle up to 1 GB files...

There are any number of ways to do the job--the request was for "easiest."

If I were doing this, I would probably establish a VPN connection between
the two machines, make a drive-letter connection using Net Use, and just
copy the file, using a command-prompt copy command, or maybe drag and drop.

Messenger is easier.

For extra credit, try a megabyte or so transfer by the two methods mentioned
so far, and maybe add drive-redirection under Remote Desktop to get a third
datapoint, and tell us which is fastest and why?

(No, I don't know the answer)

That's pretty interesting.

I do have some difficulty with their assertion that my trusting an unknown
third party makes the data transmission more secure, though.

It seems like a great idea, though, but how do they stay in business?

I have no idea what their business model is...

I have only used it to send large image files, but if I did use it for data I would certainly
encrypt the file...

My guess is that they expect to make their money selling the packaged
servers. Very low key selling job, though.
