File System Errors

I have a computer with a 40GB Seagate drive and a fresh installation of
Windows XP Pro SP2. Just for fun, I decided to create an image of the
drive in case the computer ever needs to be restored to Day 1 condition.
BootItNG would not make an image of the drive. It reported, "An error
has occurred reading from the hard drive. You can ignore all errors and
continue or cancel this process."

1) CHKDSK /F did not report any errors.
2) SpinRite did not find any errors.
3) Seagate SeaTools reports no hardware errors but it did report file
system errors, although it didn't say which ones.
4) Norton DiskDoctor does not report any file system errors.

How can I find and fix the file system errors? At this point, it is not
clear whether the problem is with the drive or with Windows.

Which version of that did you use ? The online one or the downloadable one
?

What happens if you use the Tools tab in the
propertys of the drive in My Computer ?

Might well just be some quirk of BootItNG. I prefer True Image myself.

SpinRite: 6
Seatools: Downloaded the lastet version.

No error found

Except that Seatools finds the same errors. BootItNG has always been
dead on the money.

Duh.

BootItNG has always been dead on the money.

It clearly isnt now. Presumably the file system errors are too trivial to
worry about.

How did you prepare the drive before installing XP ?

If you didnt start with a blank drive and use the install to create
the partition that XP is installed in, and you didnt use XP to create
and format any other partitions on that drive after the install, I'd
assume that what you used produced what BootItNG and SeaTools
doesnt like and I'd start over and use XP exclusively for partitioning.

I have exactly the same situation. I tried ignoring the message abou
disk read error - no good! I have many partitions, but imaging fail
on any of them. Since i don't have much time for investigation, her
is a workaround i used twice (meaning, it actually works ). Us
&Copy instead of &Image. Copy does not do compression, so d
&Resize beforehand. If the patition is a system partition, mak
sure not to forget resizing back after restoring you partition.
BTW, copying does not report any read error, so waste no more time o
disk checking, this is BootItNg issue. Bug them
Guys, please keep posting if any more updates on this issue. Besides
i have not found this subject anywhere else. Good forum
