Why is my file only 850 KB in Excel 2000 but has exploded
to 53.5 KB in Access????? And how does one save that on a

Where I went to school 53.5 KB is less than 850 KB.
Perhaps you meant MB.

First compact the database.
Then see how big it is.
If you are storing picture files, they do take up a lot of room in
Access.
It's best to store the pictures elsewhere on your drive, and just
store the file path and name in a regular text control and display
them in an Image control.

Anyway, my CD-R's hold up to 700 Mb of data so even if you meant to
write 53.5 Mb you shouldn't have a problem writing it to a CD disk.

1) Compact
2) Zip if necessary

See: File > Database Properties > General > which will tell you the size in
bytes. Access should be smaller than Excel.
