I am not as Power Point user but I run a briefing system
for users that produce briefings on Power point an have
noticed that day to day the briefings vary greatly in size
for that same briefings. The users use a template and
detail the brifing for thier use so why would one briefing
be 43 meg while another is only 3 or 4 meg. Is there a way
to compact them like you can in Access. I have to download
the briefings from an FTP site and it takes way to long
for a 43 meg file. Thanks for any help.

Tell all of your users to go to Tools > Options > Save and turn off Fast Saves.
Tell them to always leave it off.

Fast saves may be the cause of the file bloat that you are seeing. Also, it can
cause file corruption. So there is no good reason to ever use it. Once they
have turned it off they should open their presentation and save it to a new
filename. This will discard the excess baggage that Fast Saves has been adding
to their file.

If that doesn't help, then let us know something about the content. For
example, are some users including pictures or diagrams in the briefings?

If by chance the person creating the briefings in PowerPoint save there
presentation with backward compatibility to 95, 97, and 2000 then you will get
file bloating. If you do not require 95, then just make sure that they save as a
PowerPoint Presentation. this will work in all versions of PowerPoint from
97-2003
