File Size Multiplying?!

I apologize first off, if this is in the wrong section...
------------------------------------------

I'm not an amazing and experienced database user/maker... but I know enough
when something isn't working right, to see it's not working right.

Here's the problem...

I am using MS Access 2003 in FP2003. When I create a Database, there's no
problem. I make a few tables, and then save. The size is around 310kb. No
problem. I go and add things into the table, and it shoots up to (the highest
so far) 45,000kb. Why?

Any help would be great,
Thanks!

"...add things..." is not very specific. If you want specific suggestions,
try a bit more detail.

For example, is there any chance some of the "things" you have added are
images (pictures) or other Office objects (e.g., Word documents)? These are
known to cause "bloat".

Mike, I had a similar problem, my database had creeped up to 30,000+. Then
I found out about the database tool called compact and repair. Next time you
have the database open, try it from the tools menu. It should shut down the
database, work its magic and then reopen the data. You can then check the
file size. Make sure you make a backup copy first. I compact and repair
every day now. It took an accident for me to find this tool. Hope it works
for you too.
