Hello,
I have a network which combines 4 pcs and 1 lenovo laptop, all have xp home
os. the network also has a checkpoint router which is managed by our ISP.
I would like to knoe how can I share files and folder between only some of
the pc in the network for example I would like to share a folder from a pc to
only one or two computers in the network is it possible? i would also like to
ask if it's possible to determine a password for the shared file or folder
and also if i can hide the folder and determine which pc will be able to see
the folder as shared.

Are those options are avilable in xp home os or I need to change to xp pro ?

I have been looking for several months for a solution in forums and other
guides and haven't found an answer yet.
I will apreciate your help.

thanks
JJ

JJ,

With a LAN composed of computers running XP Home (and Simple File Sharing and
Guest authentication), what is accessible to one computer will be equally
accessible to all of the others.

You can maybe block the whole of a given server from specific other clients, by
use of a personal firewall configured to block specific IP addresses. Other
than that, all computers will be able to access all other computers.

would like to decide which computer will be able to enter a shared
file/folder in an other pc i will need an xp pro ?

If you have three or more computers, with one that's to be accessed by some
folks that you trust less (from a second computer) than folks that you trust
more (from a third computer), you will need XP Pro, Advanced File Sharing, and
non-Guest access for the first computer (the "server").

If you have 3 or more computers, and you want each of them to be accessible from
the others, in differing trust levels, then they should ALL have non-Guest
access and XP Pro.
