Hi,

I have a Windows XP Home Edition PC and a laptop with
Windows XP Professional. The laptop is configured for a
domain. I would like to use a cross-over cable to
connect the two for file-sharing purposes. I have set up
matching local user accounts on each machine with eight-
character passwords. I cannot ping one computer from the
other. Any suggestions as to how I can do this without
changing the laptop configuration?

Your ping will be blocked by anti-virus software or any
firewall conventions whether software or hardware.
Disable these features and try your ping agian. Take
care and good luck. Jon :-)

Thanks, Jon, for your advice. I disabled the anti-virus
software on both computers, however they were still
unable to communicate. I must be missing something
regarding the configuration.

Thanks.
