Daniel CLEMENT

Hello,

I have a w98 pc and a w2k pc connected through a wifi router.

I can access the w98 pc from the w2k one, but not the converse.

In more detail: when I share a folder from the w98 pc, I am asked to provide
a password, then I can then connect to that folder from the w2k pc using
this password. Files transfer ok; the network looks like working.

But if I want to share a folder of the w2k pc, I just can declare it
"shared" -- no place to specify a password.

Yet, from the w98 pc, when trying to connect to that folder, I am prompted
for a password... which one?

I am certainly missing something quite simple, but what?

TIA for your help - regards,

Daniel CLEMENT

You need to create a user account on the win2k machine with the same
name as your user logon name on win98.

Thank you for the reply.

There is _no_ user logon name on the w98 machine! (just the "default" user -
no password on startup - "main session logon = windows session" [do my best
to translate from French]).

Does it mean I _have_ to create a (one and only) user on the w98 pc?

Do I have to do this before or after creating the account on the other
machine? - if it matters at all.

TIA,

Daniel

On win98, click on start->logoff

Then log on as (say) "user1" and use a blank password if you want to
bypass the logon prompt in future. You will always be subsequently
logged on as user1 instead of the default user.

Then create a user on win2k called user1

It works! (and I hardly could have guessed that solution). I now see the
network shared folders perfectly from both machines.

Also, sorry about the cross-posting; I did not know which newsgroup to use.

Many thanks, Jim.
