I am trying to share a printer between a destop running on
windows 2000 and laptop running on windows ME. When I am
trying to configure the printer from laptop it is asking
me for the password. Password for //NEW/IPC$. New is the
name for desktop. How can I get rid of this password.

.
I have the same problem with win 98 trying to access a
shared folder on win 2000 and got the same message. I don't
know how to fix this, however, I just remembered that I did
read somewhere about a password that was //name of win 2000
computer/Administrator/Administrator's password. But I
can't remember where or why I read this.

Bob -- I'm having exactly your problem between my Win 98
laptop and just loaded Win2K desktop. Just tried your
suggested fix and have had no luck.

To make a long story short, try this URL:

This worked for me.
