Hi,

I would like to know if there is any software that could proxy the CIFS
file sharing ? Some of my colleagues need to access some share folders
at a remote site and we would like to consolidate the sharings to a
single server. Is that possible ? Any hints will be greatly appreciate!

Regards,
Cody

Sure, and it's completely free! Install a linux box, create directories for
shares. Mount the Windows shares to the directories and share the
directories using Samba on the Linux box. You'll still need Windows file and
share permissions for this to work as well as Linux permissions. You can use
this technique for file shares, ftp folders, etc. If you're new to Linux,
try out Fedora core 5 and just choose the "install everything" option.
You'll need about 5 gig for a full install with enough room for updates. a
20G HD is plenty, since the shared data won't actually be stored on the
local HD. You mount shares, isos (CDs that have been reduced to iso files),
etc.

This is the late appreciation since I haven't check for this group for
long. Thanks again!
