Hello,
When doing a file search, why do some files appear in blue type rather than
blacl? It is probably obvious but I cant find any explanation.
Thanks

The files whose names appear in blue have been compressed
either by the user or Windows. Windows will compress files that
haven't been used recently if you run the Disk Cleanup tool.

You can have all file names appear in black by going to Control
Panel -> Folder Options -> View tab -> Uncheck "Show encrypted
or compressed NTFS files in color" -> Click OK.

For more info go to Start -> Help and Support and enter file
compression in the Search box.

Here's an article on the subject you may find helpful.

Good luck
