file search issue

In Win2k Explorer, I try to use the Search button to
locate a file that has specific text string (example USB)
in it. Although I enter the word USB in the 'Containing
text:' block, Search doesn't find the file. But when I
locate and open the desired Excel file myself, the word
USB is in the worksheet. I have tried entering the search
criteria USB both with and without asterisks, but the file
is never found.

Any idea what is wrong - could it be an Excel issue?
Thank you

file search looks at file names, not the contents of the file, so unless yr
excel file name included 'usb' it wouldnt be found.

The search function does look at file contents if you specify that, and if
works nicely on some types of files. It always fails on Unicode text and
may fail on Excel files, depsnding on how the data is stored. In Excel,
what looks like plain text may not be.

Yr right of course - must think first!
