file search brings up files 2 or 3 times

When I do a file search from the hard drive I get the requested files, and
then it lists them again another 1 or 2 times. What gives? I've checked the
files in each of the repeat listings, and they are from the same source, or
at least that's the info given.

I'd check the source folder or the type of file. Things will show in
"my recent documents" as well as the original place and even a
"favorites". Some are likely to be just shortcuts. Its annoying I
agree but then if MS didn't show all copies there would be just as many
complaints.
