I need to try to recovery some deleted files and information from Outlook
and/or outlook express. I recently read an article talking about this, in an
IT magazine, eweek etc. but I can not relocate that article. If anyone has a
link to that article it would be greatly appreciated. If you have any
suggestions for file recovery software or service provider I would
appreciate that.

Thanks

Jon

If Outlook is connected to pop server, not exchange, then once items are
cleared from deleted folder they are gone.
There are third party utilities that may be able to recover deleted items -
much $ involved
Just google

PS if you had backups it would'nt be a problem.

Once items are deleted they are not always gone. I know roughly the going
prices for data recovery. Backups are irrelavant in this case since it is
not cost effective to backup every workstation harddrive in the company.

I have done a google search and there are far too many listings, I would
prefer a recommendation from a trusted source (ie Ziff Davis publishing) or
from somone who has used a program to know which ones work.

Well thats the first time I've heard that backup isnt a cost effective
solution for a business

By gone I meant gone other than specialised outlook data recovery.

I dont believe that will work, email is contained within a pst data file and
as such you need specialised OL recovery software
Its not the same as win data files that are deleted

If you have any
suggestions for file recovery software or service provider I would
appreciate that.

Thanks

Jon

If you are looking for file recovery software then you can try Stellar
Phoenix File Recovery Software it is a high quality data recovery
software that deleted/lost files after instances ranging from
accidentally formatting the hard disk to emptying the Recycle Bin to
files deleted after a virus attack. This File Recovery Software scans
every sector of storage media for the lost files that has to be
recovered and displays them in a tree according to the file type. The
recovery software scans the drive in raw mode and can locate the files
without the aid of file system data structures.

It is not cost effective to install a tape system or remote software and
backup every local workstations hard drive. It is cost effective to have
users store things centrally and back up from there (which is what we do).
This is a special case that falls outside the norm of business practices for
any concievable backup or disaster recovery standard and that is as far as I
can go on this case.

The e-mails are in outlook express. Unfortunatley if OE did a compact after
the email was deleted and emptied out of trash it is gone for good even
using recovery programs (which I have two I am going to try). At least that
is my understanding. Please correct me if I am wrong
