Hi All,

After a failure and a reboot, the system indicated that
there was a problem with one of the partitions on my hard
disk, and it made a lot of number crunching while it was
doing a disk check (I assume). after the system was up
and running, I found that some of my files had gone to
zero size, though everything else looks fine i.e. the
name and type of file. when I click to open these files
they don't run!!!

Any Ideas on how I can get the data back.
WinXP SP1

TIA
Sam

Are you running NTFS or FAT32?

Try start/run "cmd" to open the command window. Type "help
chkdsk" to see the options. There should be a bunch of
files on your disk that were recovered with new names.

The exact procedure you need to follow to get your data back
will take a little study. I've never had to do it and have
not looked it up. I just did a Google for "chkdsk" and got
a bunch of hits. Here is one that might help (check them all
yourself,

Did you ever receive a reply to your post? I am having a
similar problem.

Earlier today I had a system crash after installing a game
from MSN messenger 6. After I rebooted, I noticed my
documents folder on my second drive was missing. Is there a
way to recover this folder and the files? I did a system
restore, but this folder is still missing from my second
hard drive. Any help or suggestions to recover this data is
greatly appreciated! Thank you!
