This is probably hopeless, but:

I just control something-ed in the middle of typing a term paper and the dialogue box asking my if i wanted to save the document came up. Deep in thought, impatient, and stupid, i hit "no." The document closed, and what's now sitting on my desktop is a version of the document minus the six hours of work i put in today. I don't have a backup copy option selected (I will now!) or "save a version upon closing file" option selected. Is there any temporary place it might be hiding?

THanks so much from a struggling graduate student.

The backup option would not do you any good, anyway. See
