Hi,

I'm not sure where to go with this question. If I'm in the wrong newsgroup,
please let me know.

I have a user on Windows 2000 Professional who gets an error message
regarding Windows File Protection and I'm not sure how to handle it. It
appears to me that he gets this error the morning after Windows update runs.
We use SUS to get Windows updates. The error I am getting is,

The protected system file iexplore.exe was not restored to its original,
valid version because the Windows File Protection restoration process was
cancelled by user interaction, user name is peter. The file version of the
bad file is 6.0.2800.1106.

Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,
Jeff

You can try deleting both the file from the original location and the WFP
cache. Seach the disk for the file and delete them both (or all instances if
more than one exists). You should find one in Program Files\Internet
Explorer and another in System32\dllcache. If those mismatch, the dllcache
takes over. I have the same version.

Alternately, you can temporarily disable WFP while updating files. But I
suspect an incomplete or mismatching patch so that might not work.

Once this is done, perform a patch and reboot to allow the files to take
their place. Things should be ok from there on.
