How does one create an association between a file and a program in the
Folders option control panel? Rather, what are the steps for doing so?

Rightclick the file and select the program/application you want associated
with it,
if you do not want the one already entered, select "Open with >"
Once you have selected the program associated with that folder, go to........
Windows Explorer>tools>folder options>View tab>Apply to all folders.
Now all documents with that file extension will now be associated with that
program/application

That did not work. The file has a .pps extension. Power Point? No. PP says
it cannot open a NYSEDM~1.EML FILE. Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
give me a syntax error message Which is the same thing I received before
asking how to create the association. Thanks for trying. Guess I just won't
open the file.

Richard.

..EML is the extension for the file that is created when you drag an email
message out of Outlook (or Outlook Express) and drop it on the desk or into
a folder. It sounds like you may have missed a step and still need to save
the powerpoint attachment separate from the email before it can be opened.
Check the help files of the email program for "save attachment" directions.

Thanks Sharon, but that doesn't work either. I get a Syntax error message
when I try to open. Originally this file had an icon that was not in the
folders icon list but did show up in the ppviewer install file. At that time
I was getting a message that my security would not let me download. Reducing
windows security, shutting down comcast security and McAffee including the
firewall did no good. Reinstalling ppviewer produced a window telling me to
creat an association with a program. I thought I had one with ppviewer
installed. Anyway I went to folders Icon list and moved the Windows power
point presentation icon up into the OpenWith section alon with outlook
express and Internet explorer. At that time the icon for the file changed to
a different ppviewer icon. Nothing is working. Maybe if I restore to an
earlier date it will work. I don't know how long to go back though.
Experiment I guess.

Sometimes my brain is scrambled. I thought ppviewer would open automatically
when clicking on a pps file and show the pps file. Not so. One needs to open
the viewer and load the file to open the file. Case closed. Thanks anyway.
