File prints from right click but not from Word?

Had a similar occurrence with another file earlier this year and asked about
it in the Word group, without really finding out what was happening.
Perhaps the print regulars might know:

Trying to print a particular file from within Word (version dated 2003), all
I get is a 'preparing for background printing' message and the processor
locks up and Word has to be shut down in Process Explorer.

But if I just right click the file without opening Word it goes straight to
the printer with no problems.

What is the difference?

Cheers,

Try the following:
(sorry if the wording is different in your Word,
this is my translation from my German Word to English)
Open Word, open your document.
Choose (from the menu) Extras - Options
Choose the Printing tab
Un-check "background printing" and click OK
Then try printing.
Reason: Background processing in Word seems to be buggy in some respect.

btw you may also want to un-check "save in background" in the "saving"
tab.

Instant solution!
Thanks for the tip Wilfried.

Are these settings on a per document basis then - ie coming in with each
document that we open? I had assumed that these options were for the whole
of Word rather than different for each doc.

Anyhow, we now know what to do in future, so thanks very much.
