file permissions error

Every time I go to save a file in word to a floppy I keep
getting a message that says "unable to save document to
file permission error". I don't get it since the
properties show that it is marked as archive and not as a
read-only document. Plus I even tried copied the document
into a new one and renamed it. Even so I still get the
same error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe the computer God's are saving you from a fate worse than death - LOSS
OF FILE! NEVER open from or save to a floppy (if you can help it)! Always
save to your hard drive (My Documents is fine), then copy it to your floppy
using My Computer or Windows Explorer. You will be happier in the long run
because floppies are the absolute worst media to work from. Several reasons
of this are:

1. A floppy is quite slow and some speeds vary between computers and might
not be able to be read from one computer to another.

2. If you open a document from the floppy, Word might be set to always
search for a floppy every time you open a document.

3. Word makes backups every 10 minutes to the same folder that your file was
in. If this is a floppy, it might not take long for your computer to lock
up since it might run out of room quick (especially if the document is
large).

I sure there are other great reasons for not saving to or opening from a
floppy, but thank your lucky stars that this minor inconvenience happened.
It might have saved your document.

Holler back if you are unable to copy the file from your hard drive to a
floppy.

Not quite correct. The dangers of saving to/opening from a floppy are real
enough, but the AutoRecover backups that Word makes at intervals (if you
have this option enabled) are made to a different folder. The temp files
that Word creates when you open or save a document to a floppy, however,
*are* on the floppy. See “WD: How Word for Windows Uses Temporary Files” at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632. Also see

While trying to save a 'word' file opened from My Documents, to a removable disk at E drive (to load onto my new laptop) I keep getting the message - unable to save due to file permission errors. What am I doing wrong, and is there an easier way to transfer my files?

Don't ever try to save directly from Word to a removable disk. Save to the
HD, then copy to the disk.

Hi Tony,

Use Windows Explorer.
