All,

I have a HUGE PP file that I am breaking down into smaller files.

I have buttons on the last slide of each file that, via an action
setting, takes me to the first slide of the next file.

All good thus far...until I burn to CD.

Unless the paths remain exactly the same I am in trouble.

Is there anyway I can make it that the links to other files just look
in teh same directory that the original file is in, no matter where
that maybe on different PCs etc?

Thanks

Hi mhoctober,

When you say huge, what do you mean? Obviously, if you are looking at
placing it onto a CD, it has to be under 800 MB.

First, before breaking the presentation apart, I would try to reduce the
size where it stands. Please check out the suggestions on this page:
**Why are my PowerPoint files so big? What can I do about it?

Please report back, after taking all these steps, what the size of the
presentation is.

With sounds and movies, if you put the sound/movie file in the same folder as
the PPT before you add it, the link will be pathless, so it'll work anywhere
(as long as the PPT and sound/movie files stay in the same folder).

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way with links to PPT files.

If you use PowerPoint 2003, try using Package for CD (on the File menu).
This will fix up at least some of the links so they work from the CD.
P4CD doesn't work right on my system so I can't tell you whether it works with
PPT links.

You can try it then run our free FixLinks demo addin's Link Report feature to
check on the links, determine whether they're pathless or not.
http://fixlinks.pptools.com for more info.

And if P4CD doesn't do the job, there are some tricks on the FixLinks site that
show you how to prep your presentation manually so the links don't break.
FixLinks will do the job for you automatically.
