Bob

Hi,

I have a Windows 2000 Server (with SP4) and File Sharing
enabled and it was working fine. I could access all the
shared files and folders on that server from my network.
Recently however I am unable to access those files and
folders. Whenever I try to access that server I get the
following error:-

The file \\<server name> cannot be found

I checked the services and nothing has changed and I still
can see file and print sharing enabled on that machine.
All the same files and folders are still shared have all
the required permissions. Has anyone else encountered this
problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

How are you trying to get to the share? Can you ping the server by this
netbios(host) name? If you are you using the netbios name of the server
and cannot connect, can you connect by the IP address? If you can then
you are having a netbios name resolution issue.
