I have more than 500 mp songs in my music directory in file manager. Is
there any utility that I can export file names (artist - song) into Word or
Excel? TIA.

This is worth a try if you have Winamp.
Create a new playlist including all your MPs.
Open the Playlist editor and select 'Generate HTML playlist'
When the HTML list opens in Internet Explorer or whatever, select the names
and Copy to clipboard.
Paste into Word or Excel.

Works for me.

2xExplorer has an option for copying the names of the selected files
to the clipboard. Then you could paste them into excel or word or
wherever.

2xExplorer is at http://netez.com/2xExplorer/

You might try two things:

1) Export a playlist with winamp and import that into excel
(might have some useless fields).

2) (If the filename is already in the artist - song format)
Type "dir /B > list.txt" at a command prompt when you are in
your music directory. Import the file called "list.txt" into
excel (or open with word).

Thank you all. I will check them out.

One of the most useful all-around utilities for this kind of thing is
PathCopy...

http://home.worldonline.dk/ninotech/freeutil.htm

Quoting from the author's home page...

"Ninotech Path Copy is a shell extension for Windows 95, 98, NT4,
2000, and XP that enables to copy the path of a file or directory to
the Clipboard. You can then paste the path in to your document,
e-mail, etc. You copy the path of a file or directory by
right-clicking it in the Windows Explorer and choosing Copy Path from
the context menu. The context menu then offers nine standard ways of
copying the path, in addition to the user defined copying methods that
you create yourself..."

Since it is a Shell Extension, you install it by simply unzipping the
files into a directory, then right-clicking on 'PATHCOPY.INF' and
selecting 'Install' from the context menu. Then it is available in
every Explorer view.

A not-so-obvious feature that I have found to be GREAT is... If you
select a number of files (even a whole directory) and then activate
one of the PathCopy options (say, 'Copy Long Name' or 'Copy Long
Path') then the whole set of files is processed, and you end up with a
nice list of files on your clipboard, ready to be pasted into whatever
application you want. For example, here is the result of doing just
that on my install directory for this program...

C:\Apps\PathCopy\PATHCO64.DLL
C:\Apps\PathCopy\PATHCO32.DLL
C:\Apps\PathCopy\PATHCOPY.GID
C:\Apps\PathCopy\PATHCOPY.HLP
C:\Apps\PathCopy\PATHCOPY.INF
C:\Apps\PathCopy\README.TXT

The author's download link leads to the Simtel Archive for this
program...

If you haven't installed this one yet, you really need to try it. I
have used it so long that I sometimes forget it is NOT a part of the
Windows OS. The give away is that it is so incredibly useful!

I cannot function for >5 minutes, without having a copypath shell extension
for the explorer. Thing is, I'd considered the choices as to which copypath
extension as a largely seen-one-seen-em-all affair. After having settled
down with Clickie, didn't see any point in changing.

Makes it new info to me to read what you wrote below....

I just ran an install of this, Ninotech Path Copy, to check on a concern
I had. That it might be one of those extensions that adds a bunch of
entries to the first level of the context menu. Turns out, good news.
First level is just one entry, "Copy Path," and the options you refer
to are on a fly-out submenu.

Prior to posting this, I checked whether I could reference the one I'd been
using by just its name, that is whether it would show up early on a Google
results list. Led me to stop by the home page. There I learn that there is
a newer release of Clickie than what I have, which has added the feature
that you describe. When multiple files are selected, all of those paths
will be copied by the clipboard together. So I've just upgraded.

For me, it looks that Clickie meets my prefs, since it's one less click
to do the copy, and I don't think I need the various sub-menu choices
offered by Ninotech's Path Copy. Yet, I'll need to take a close look at
Path Copy's configuration options before final decision.

The Point Is.........I'd not even been aware this kind of feature was
available, until you posted. So thank you!
