File names do not appear when trying to export to any file type except .pst

I am having trouble getting help to determine what the problem is in my
Outlook. Outlook is 2003. When I try to export to any file type other
than .pst, the files window appears empty. Only when I click .pst for
the file to export to, do I get folders within Outlook.

I suspect that some registry entries are missing in that I found some
missing when I tried to export to text from Access. When I hand
entered entried to the registry, copying them from another machine,
everything started to work.

Since this seems to be an esoteric problem, I don't quite know where to
turn to get some answers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Where do I look for that? Can you point me? And if they are not
installed, where do I get the information to install?

Thanks
Lauren

Verify you have installed all importers and exporters.

Also, Russ, would not the importers and exporters be installed when
Installing Office 2003?
Additional information: The computer is a Dell Workstation 690 with XP
professional installed by Dell. Office 2003 was installed from a new
purchase of Office Professional Edition 2003. When Access would not
export to a comma delimited text file, investigation found "text"
registry files missing. After hand entering the same entries as on one
of my other machines, the Access text export worked. This is what
leads me to think there might be more registry entries missing.

On a lap top that I have, when I tried to export to a csv file, the
error message said that the machine didn't have the export engine
installed and asked if I wanted it installed. On the workstation, no
message comes up evening suggesting that there is no export engine
installed.

Thanks for any additional help.

Importers and Exporters are not necessarily installed by default. Just run
the Office setup Wizard from the Office CD.

I did that Russ, and the only installation options I get are for
Microsoft Small Business. The destination folder is C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Small Business\
I just went through and made sure that SP 2 was installed and indeed it
is. I suspect that the importer/exporter is installed or I would get
an error message when I tried to invoke an export. On my laptop, where
there is no importer/exporter and it puts up an error message saying
the the Importer/exporter engine is not installed.

On the Dell, everything goes as one would expect except that the window
where the outlook file structure is supposed to appear, is blank. No
error messages at all. It is as if the engine goes to the registry and
doesn't find a pointer as to where the .pst files are so it just comes
up with a clean blank window. It does export correctly if I try to
export to a another .pst file again suggesting that the inport/export
engine is alive and well.

Any other ideas?

Thanks a lot for your continued efforts.

OK Russ,

I'm a little out of my level of expertise here. I downloaded the
office 2003 resource kit. But I can't seem to find out where to find
my current installation elements. I go to the Custom Maint. Wizard and
click "Open MSI file". After providing the path, it wants me to either
open a current CMV file or create a new one. Since there is not an old
one, I click new one. After naming the CMV file, it lists all of the
components that I have on Office 2003. Then it wants me to set the
state that I want each to be in.

This is great except, I do not want to create a whole new custom
installation, but find out what the current one is!

If I could send you screen shots, I could show you want menus are being
put up.

When I proceed as if I am going to create a custom maintenance wizare
file, under outlook, I do show the import/export feature. But it is
not active in the new window until I make it so. Unless I don't
understand here, this is a custom configuration that I would use as an
IT person for a company where I want everyone the same.

You do raise an interesting point however, This is an OEM workstation.
The machine only came with XP professional installed. I purchased and
installed Office professional 2003 myself. In this situation, is there
an expectation that one would provide a custom maintenance file?

You can run the Office Maintenance Wizard from the Office CD for your
current installation only by using the Office setup files that were used for
that installation in the first place.
