Recently I had to copy my web site's pages from my main
hard drive to an external hard drive for backup. After
doing so, all of the file names with lower case letters
had been changed to all upper case.
Although this presents no problem when using these files
on a computer, after working on some of the pages and
adding new ones I published them to my web site and then
discovered that all of the pages were now treated as new
pages because of the change in file case, thus the old
pages were still there and were the only ones that could
be accessed through a web browser.
In those cases where new pages were accessible, the
links, being all lower case, could not find the pages
because their file names were now in upper case.
While I have found a small program that can convert all
of the file names in a single folder to lower case (it
doesn't convert folder names, which have to be done
manually), this is only a temporary solution, as the next
time I backup my web site pages to a different drive, the
case will again be changed to all upper case.
This happens with all my files, not just FrontPage files,
and I understand that this is a "feature" of Windows
and/or DOS file copying.
Is there something I am missing here, that can prevent
this from happening in the first place with copying to a
different drive? Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated.
