At work I have certain machines that have no File menu on the IE window, this
is also spreading from machine to machine rather quickly. Any idea on what is
causing this and is there any solutions?

Thanks

No idea what is causing it, but it sounds like malware.
Try this old response if it also occurs in a Windows Explorer window:

Open Regedit and go here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\
Remove "NoFileMenu" or change the value from 1 to 0

You may be infested with malware.

I have the opposite problem. In our library, we would like to eliminate the
file menu to force users to use print preview.
I have created the registry entry for nofilemenu. It works for everyone but
the restricted user!
I have created the entry as administrator and also tried making the
resticted user an admin, rmeoved all restrictions, then created the
nofilemenu =1 as the restricted user. The file menu always reappears on
reboot! Adding the print peview button to the IE toolbar survives a reboot
but the nofilemenu setting does not.
Any insight on this problem would be appreciated.
Feel free to reply via email. I will be forever grateful.
