I'm trying to locate as many older Windows programs/utilities that still are
within Windows XP
I know that *File Manager is in Windows XP* but I can't remember the run box
command that will bring it up. "progman" brings up My Documents. It's not
filemon or filemon.exe, but I've brought it up before. I'm also very
interested in other hidden (or at least from me) older Windows programs
available in XP.
"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe" or "mplayer2" in the
run box will get you Windows Media Player 6.4 .

Can anyone help me out with finding File Manager from Windows 3X in Windows
XP and meanwhile I'll continue my search. I didn't find it using Windows
Search, but there are a lot of things the erratic Search in Windows XP
misses--maybe next time Longhorn will fix Search.

Thanks,

Chad Harris

C:\WINDOWS\system32 has many of the "old" stuff although "File Manager"
isn't there. Are you sure you've used File Manager in XP before?

But that's not what the OP asked. He wanted to know where in XP winfile.exe
was, not where you could get it.

Once you have it installed, type: winfile

File Manager from Win9X will not work in Win2000 or WinXP, however,
File Manager from NT 4.0 will work. You can download a copy from

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 71.

Note - however, when deleting files from File Manager, they will NOT
go into the recycle bin.
