File Locked

How can I tell why a file is locked, or what program is somehow locking it?

I use Eudora as a mail tool. While trying to synchronize mail files between
two computers over a LAN for backup purposes I find that the target machine
will not accept certain files to be copied into it. Even if I drop back to a
manual copy/paste operation XP Home gives me the error message:

"Cannot copy In: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-
protected and that the file is not currently in use."

This is true even if I reboot the machine and attempt to do the copy when
Eudora has not been run to lock anything up on either machine so the file is
not in use by any program I'm aware of. I can copy/paste to some other
location, but it fails if I try to paste over top of the existing file.

Looking at the properties for the file does not show it to be read only or
anything. I don't know what the XP error message means by "write protected"
other than set as read only.

How can I tell how the file is locked and/or what program locked it if it's
in use?

Thanks....

Hi,

You will have to ensure that the sufficient privileges are given to the
other machine to write to the backup.

That means u will have to give the same security access to the same role on
the computer Eudora is on.

Can you elaborate on that? When I set up file sharing on the target machine
I did tell it to allow write access to the files if that's what you mean? Or
do you mean something more?

95% of the files in the same subdirectory do copy over properly, it's just a
few that fail if that has any bearing on the issue. It's a file by file
problem, not a folder problem as far as I can tell.

Thanks...
