I opened a file with Excel 2000, saved some changes,
closed the file and now whenever I try to reopen it Excel
says the file is in use. I know it isn't though. Also, I
opened it as read-only and saved it with a new name but
after saving changes and closing it the same thing happens
with the new file. I am about to reboot Windows but does
anyone have any other ideas?

Mike,
I'm having the same problem. It's something w/ Excel 2000 (I think). I used
the same SS w/ Excel 97 for a long time (and still do) without this
happening.
I have to reboot and then it's ok but......
It seems to be caused by saving the file but....again...I don't know for
sure and no one seems interested in explaining.
I found this article on MS Knowledge Base (#103329) but it's not exactly my
situation. When I try to save a file, sometimes, it causes a page fault.
Then when trying to reopen it, I get a message saying it is "locked for use"
and I can only open it as a read only file. In fact it is locked and even in
Explorer it can't be deleted or moved or renamed so my backups are worthless
until I reboot and clear it.
If you find anything out I'd appreciate hearing from you.
