file "~" keeps popping up on desktop

Occationally I get a file on the desktop labeled "~" and I
don't know where it comes from. I checked it to see if it
was a virus with my Symantec Corp. Ed. 8.0 client and it's
clean but when I opened it with Notepad it appears to be
by Address book. All of the names in my address book are
there mixed in with a bunch of odd, random characters.
I've run a scan of my drive and I'm not infected with
anything - or at least anything known.

Anyone know where this file comes from?

It comes from Outlook Express. It's a copy of your address book. I forget
why this happens, but it's nothing to fear. It's just a nuisance.

Its a bug from one of the MS updates ... MS is aware of the issue and is
working to fix it ... if you rename the file to temp.wab you'll find its
a backup copy of your adress book.
 
Thanks, I believe I may have asked about this many months
ago but after all this time I wasn't sure if it was the
same thing.
