I use the File>Import function whenever I need to add files to my web.
Occasionally, I edit a (for instance) GIF file and import the new version,
and that process generates a dialog window telling me there's already a file
by that name and asking if I want to replace it with my file ... answer yes,
and the folder now contains the updated version of the file.
Until today. Just undertook a massive file replacement project -- replacing
files named in upper/lowercase style with new versions named all in
lowercase. Answered yes to the prompt confirming that I wanted to overwrite
the existing files w/ the new files. Edited my links to point to the new
lowercase-named files. Uploaded everything to the server ... and found that
I was still looking at the old files. This was not a matter of not
refreshing the page or anything of that nature ... the files I thought I had
replaced simply had not been replaced.
The solution I eventually found was that I had to first delete the existing
files out of the local folder on my hard drive and then import the new files
with the all lowercase names. Otherwise, FP would not replace the old files
with the new ones.
I understand that a Windows box sees a file with this name (MyFile.htm) as
being the same as one with this name (myfile.htm) ... however, if a dialog
window asks me whether or not I want to replace a file, and I say "yes" --
why would it not then replace the file?
Is this a known issue?
Thanks for any insight into this ... it really wrecked up my day for a while
