John

I recently installed frostwire and it changed the icon displayed for
..torrent to its own icon (barbed wire). I also have ?Torrent installed.
When I change the .torrent files to display the ?Torrent icon in folder
options it displays correctly but windows explorer continues to display the
frostwire icon. These files open with ?Torrent as desired. Am I missing
something or is this a problem?

Help appreciated, John.

It could be that the old icon is still stuck in the Icon Cache. To
flush / regenerate the Icon cache, follow the following sequence:

Right-Click desktop->Properties->Appearance Tab-> Advanced ->
In the "Item" window, select "Icon" ->
In the "Size" window, change the size to one bigger.
Close all windows by clicking "OK".

This will rebuild your Icon cache.
Repeat the above process changing the "Size" back to normal to restore
the icon size to its original size.

HTH,
John

Fine this registry key:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.torrent]
Default=uTorrent

Follow the default value to:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\uTorrent\DefaultIcon]

Change the icon path.

Or you can use 'Control Panel-->Folder Options-->File Types'
