I have a file that in one worksheet (call it the data 1) contains line by
line customer level data monthly about 15000 lines and only getting bigger
and then in the other worksheets I have sum if then statements that relate to
the column fields in the main data file (data 1), and basically it is
becoming harder and harder to process this. I am wondering if there is a way
to compress the data or to freeze say the numbers on the other worksheets for
the previous months, but have this month calculate the formulas. Is there a
way to freeze some cells to be just those numbers calculated without having
to recalc everytime, while calculating the nonfrozen months. I know its
confusing, but I am desperate. If anyone has anyway to help they can reach me
at 978 621 9349. thanks

Can you analyse the data via different means, ie perhaps using a pivot
table. I regularly work with proposals that have 30,000-50,000 lines of
data by anything up to 150 columns of data. Occasionally I'll use access to
store the data when it blows through the 65K row limit, but in either case I
have no problems analysing the data making enormous calculations, in
fractions of a second. Pivot tables are phenomonally powerful, yet
extremely simple to grasp if you can invest a little bit of time to
understand them.

And if you are constantly adding new data you can make the source of the
Pivot table dynamic so it automatically picks up the new data.

Depending on your data and use, you may be able to replace the row by row
detail data in your main table with summarized data. For example, you may
have 30 lines for transactions with one customer in one month, but since the
data is old, having just one line with the totals from those 30 would do.

Keep the original data in another file, or at least on another page in the
same workbook.
