Movie maker 2.1 was working fine until today when I tried to continue
with a movie I am putting together.

Now when I open a project I get the message "The file for video
transitions and effects is missing" and Movie maker doesn't work.

What has happened and how can I resolve this??

Any help appreciated.

hi mary
you can uninstall and reinstall windows movie maker by opening the control
panel and selecting add remove programs. along the left hand side of the add
remove window there is a remove windows components heading.
however i suggest you put the windows operating system cd in the cd drive
and open run in the start menu and type the following exactly as you see it;
SFC /scannow
please note a space between the C AND /
this will copy any missing files from the cd to your pc including your
missing transition files etc. GOOD LUCK

=====================================
Movie Maker 2.1 is not a choice in Add-Remove
Programs or Windows Components.

Movie Maker 2.1 is installed as a component of
WinXP SP2.

technically your comments are correct in that movie maker 2.1 cannot be
removed this way however i don't think mary specified a particular version
and as not everyone has an up to date recent version of windows, i was
hedging my bets and giving her advice covering past and present versions. i
have an old laptop and movie maker is removable this way. i did personally
recommend the other method however. now mary. see what you started ha ha.

Well actually...the first words in Mary's
original message were: "Movie Maker 2.1"

NOOOOOO Please Don't uninstall your Brico Pack. Follow my solution and
tell me if it worked.

1. Go to C:\Windows\inf
2. Right click on Moviemk.inf and click on Install
3. WHen it asks for your Windows XP cd put it in and browse to the
I386 folder. Click OK

THat will reinstall your Movie Maker and Problem Solved.

Hello. Your solution work great. First I moved all the DLLs in C:\Program Files\Movie maker into a temp folder. Put the Windows XP cd in the CD drive and typed in the RUN command window:

SFC /Scannow

It did the trick. Within minutes my C:\Program Files\Movie Maker folder was filled with all the required DLLs and the ovie Maker program works fine.

Thanks very much for the tip.
