Hi - I noticed on several occasions that my folder and
file security seems to be dropped on my file server. The
file server is a W2K SP4 server (Domain Controller).
It's quite odd - the first time I tried to access a
directory that I didn't have permission for it was wide
open. I logged off my account and then back on -
security was restored and I could no longer access the
directory. Both times I was logged on as the same user.
Any suggestion on what could be wrong?

That sounds strange and I would think it has more to do with your logon.
Next time you have access, go to the server and use Computer
Management/shared folders/sessions to see as what user you are being
connected as to see if it can shed some light on what is going on. ---

Thanks for the reply - I checked the sessions on the
server and it sees me as the adminitrator. All all other
sessions the user name and PC name are correct. Like I
said mine shows administrator and my IP address instead
of the PC name. Any Idea?

Hmm. Can't think of anything offhand. Gosh I hope there is a rational
explaination as that would be reason for being concerned. Enabling of
auditing of logon events on that server may give some clues also if you
correlate the times in the security log to times you are able to get
access. --- Steve
