File Folder Issues

Recently I somehow managed to screw up my file folders. When I double click, they don't open like they should; instead they open a search. I tried to fix it by adding 'open' to the advanced table in the folder options (file types), but I wasn't sure what program to select to get it to open the way it should. This is driving me crazy! How can I fix the problem and get my file folders back to normal? I need help ASAP. I could restore my computer, but I have so many files I don't want to lose, so I'd love it if someone could help me out.

Undo what ever you've done. Then type in Start Run
regsvr32 /i shell32

It is caused by playing with folders in the buggy FileTypes dialog.

Try this link..

Thank you so much! They now work just fine. I'll save this information incase I screw it up again. ;D

In Windows Explorer go to Tools>Folder Options and click the Defaults
button. This should take all the folder options back to the Microsoft
default. Do this on all the tabs. Make sure you tell the Options to make
all folders the same. When you get things squared away you can then set up
your folder options the way you want them.

As you will if you play with it in the file types dialog. If you have to use FT dialog then always run this afterwards.

I share a similar problem with Kate but only when opening the My Computer
folder. All other folders work instantly. I imagine an index to the My
Computer folder is missing. I tried David's and Kevin's approach but they
did not work for me. I downloaded Rick's solution but haven't tried it yet.
Since this is not a general problem for all folders but a single one, is
there a fix for my situation?

I just noticed that under the MY Computer folder when it eventually opens
there are two strange drives that may have appeared when I downloaded photos
from my Nikon Coolpix camera. Both show as: memory_card on Npi94778a' (Y)
and memory_card on Npi94778a' (Z). Perhaps these are being searched for when
in fact they are not present. Is my fix to remove these or are these needed
for something?
