File extension

I was using a third party program to build an install
program for a VB program I wrote. In my program I us a file
extension .exc. When I created a new file association I
miss spelled the .exc and typed in .exe. At the time I
didn't notice the mistake. I went ahead and built the
install program and did a test install and then did a
uninstall. When the uninstall finished I could no longer
load any program that uses the .exe extension. Does anyone
know how to fix this without doing a complete new windows
install, don't want to loose all my files. I did a repair
install and that worked fine but I stall can not load any
programs. Could anyone help me with this problem. Thanks

Doug Knox's website has a page full of fixes that will restore the default
registry information for many of the standard XP file extensions. Included
in the list is a fix for .EXE files:
