text.
The export spec options are: fixed width, file origin
Windows (ANSI), dates, times, and numbers are all at the
defaults. The file itself has all text fields and one
memo field. I thought the memo field might be the problem
because if I remove it, the file exports fine, but I need
the memo field in the file.
I'm currently working in Access 97. I upgraded the
database to 2002 and it did the same thing. For Windows,
I am on Windows 2000, version 5, service pack 2.
The default font in Wordpad, where it works, is Courier
New. The default font in Notepad, where it doesn't work,
is also Courier New.
The only language involved is English.

If the first few characters viewed in Notepad are something like this
{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252{\colortb
you're exporting the table as "rich text format". Export it as a "text
file" instead.
Otherwise, check the code page setting in the export specification.
If it's neither of these things, post back with some more information:
-version and service packs of Windows and Access
-the fonts you're using
-the languages involved (if other than English)
-if it's not too confidential, the first few records - or fields - of
the textfile copied and pasted first from WordPad and then from Notepad
(so we can see what is actually happening).
I have a very bizarre problem. I am trying to export a
table to a text file using an export specification. The
table exports file. If I open the text file in Wordpad, I
can see the data and all looks fine. If I open the file
in Notepad, it takes a minute to load and then all I see
are strange characters. I am sending this file to a
vendor to load into their system. They say they can't
read the file into their system and to test if the file is
read-able, we should open it in Notepad. Has anyone seen
this before or does anyone have any ideas?
