XP/Pro with SP2

When I download a file xxxx.zip I expect and do see the File download
warning asking to "Open or Save" etc.

When I am downloading an xxxxx.exe file I do not get the File Download
screen. The download just appears to start immediately.

Have I inadvertently changed a setting.?

Ideas on how to restore the normal behavior.?

thanks ...

Hi,

Try the following resources:

Specifically:

Not Prompted to Specify Download Folder for File
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=177976

Or, consider the following alternatives from this site:

If you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to ask,

Best regards,

Altrus

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have investigated both aticles you reference but
they do not seem to help my situation. I am having this issue with XP/PRO SP2
and IE6 and with file extension type exe.

I never get the file download security warning screen to run or save, it
just seems to download immediately.?

Hi:

I had similar problems and fixed them by doing the following. Open IE and
go to Tools>Internet Options>Security Tab>Custom Level. I have my security
settings set at the Medium Level and then click on Reset. Close out by
clicking on OK.

After I did the above I have had no further problem with the Download Box
to save the file etc.

I tried using this for my Xp/Pro/Multimedia but I do not get this part and
what file should I chose to get it to work.
"On the File Types tab, click the appropriate file type in the Registered
File Types box."

Pardon, I just got the meaning of file type.
