I had a hard disk failure on my Inspiron 1501. I am using Vista Home
Premium. After replacing the new hard disk, to my dismay I could not restore
my files from my August complete backup. I am at a loss as to what I missed
in the backup. The dell tech that helped me said there were no files in that
backup. I have been backing up on a dvd-rw. How can I test my
new(yesterday) backup to see if there are files on it? I don't want to ever
have to go through constructing files again!!
Thanks

What backup program did you use? Did you attempt a full system backup, or
just data files?

I used the backup wizzard on my backup and restore center. I had backed up
before, but decided to do a complete back up again. I thought this backed up
all my files.

Mike,
Thanks for answering my post. I was able to delete a file and then
replace it with my new backup from yesterday, so I know my files are copied
right I was also able to restore my August backup into a seperate folder,
and was able to restore my 2006 tax return. The ony thing I would like to
restore is my Works calendar. I cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone know
where it on my backup? The only one I can find is Windows calendar. None
of my data is on that one. Im at a loss to find it. It is the only thing I
will need to start over on, and of course I won't remember the appointments I
put on the January 2008 calendar!!!
Thanks

Do the 'advanced' search, and check the box labeled 'Include non-indexed,
hidden and system files..
