Many Microsoft applications have the characteristic of author in the author column heading of windows explorer. Is there an administrative function within Windows that can require an author to be specified when saving all (types of) files?

Hello GR,

Which Microsoft applications do want to set a policy for? I will investigate
this matter and let you know what I found out as soon as you let me know
which applications you're looking for this functionality.

I will wait for your reply before I start investigating. :) It would be
good to narrow the scope a bit before searching.

Have you tried viewing the documents in detail view?

Click View, Details
Now you can select columns to view.
Right-click on any of the column items and select Author

Some items simply don't have the author information filled out. As such,
there's not a way to show you an author name.

Are you sure that all these documents you are looking for even have an
author name detailed in them? If they don't, explorer cannot display one.

Before I start pinging discussion groups, I'd like to make sure you've
gleaned a sample of files with known author tags, items that don't display
an author value in explorer, but have one listed in its properties. Once
we've made sure of that, I can start making inquiries

Thanks!

well, not all of the applications that i find in windows explorer, and am
searching for authors for, are microsoft applications. But they do have
authors associated with them and they do not show up in windows explorer. A
good example is adobe acrobat; the document properties display an author but
one is not displayed in explorer.
here is a list of file types that i am searching for a way to identify
their author through windows explorer:
.pdf, .html, .swf, .xml, .exe, .dwg, .java, .js, .lst, .avi, .zip, .txl,
..swj, .rtf, .prtdot, .scc, .bak, .db, .mpp

Tools - Options - Save - Prompt For Document Properties (terminology differs between versions). Adobe properties is adobe only and has nothing to do with Office or NTFS documents properties.
